Upcoming San Francisco Antiquarian Book, Print, & Paper Fair

What: The bi-annual San Francisco Antiquarian Book, Print, & Paper Fair will be held on February 9 & 10, 2008. This two-day book fair, held from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, and from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, has earned a reputation for offering excellent material with a broad range of subject matter and pricing. There will be literally “something for everyone,” from the well-used reading copy to the upscale, scarce collectors gem, and everything in between. This bi-annual fair usually has between 120 and 180 exhibitors. It has been a fixture of the book scene on the West Coast since 1994. This year, the fair is fully booked with over 190 dealer exhibitors.

The selection of rare and antiquarian books, manuscripts, prints and related materials available will include early printed books and manuscripts, illustrated books, fine bindings, early American and European literature and modern first editions, children’s books, maps, autographs, ephemera, and antiquarian books on law, architecture, economics, gastronomy, wine and scores of other fields. There will also be a wide range of material on the history of California and the American West and Western exploration.

Where: The San Francisco Antiquarian Book, Print, & Paper Fair will be held at the San Francisco Concourse, 7th and Brannan Street at Showplace Square, San Francisco.

Who: Of course, the Argonaut Book Shop will be exhibiting at this exciting show. We will have on display our usual assortment of fine and rare books on California history and numerous other subject areas. Please look for us at BOOTH 208.

Web Site for the ILAB

The International League of Antiquarian Booksellers has its own web site. This site can be found at www.ilab-lila.com. The International League of Antiquarian Booksellers is an organization that encompasses national associations of antiquarian booksellers around the world. It speaks for twenty-one nations and two thousand leading booksellers. Its logo stands for the integrity and professionalism of the trade worldwide.

The League (or ILAB, as it is often known among English-speakers; LILA among French) was founded in Amsterdam at a meeting of major European booksellers in 1947. It was born of the spirit of international co-operation and fuelled by the determination to sweep away national differences that inspired the postwar world. Since that time its aims, objects and ideals have been adopted across the continents, and the ILAB network now extends into America, Asia and the Southern Hemisphere.

The objects of the ILAB (formulated in 1947) are to uphold and improve professional standards in the trade, to promote honorable conduct in business, and to contribute in various ways to a broader appreciation of the history and art of the book. All of the national associations, including the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America, uphold these objects.

The Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America (ABAA) was founded in 1949 and joined the International League. The Argonaut Book Shop, a founding member of the ABAA, urges you to visit and explore our international league's web site.
